IFVS Pathways Home Understanding Domestic Violence

Florida State University's Institute for Family Violence Studies offers an online curriculum for Understanding Domestic Violence as a Social Services Professional. This course is designed for social services personnel and provides an overview of relevant domestic violence topics.

This course provides a basic foundation of knowledge of domestic violence, including domestic violence dynamics and safety planning, along with case scenarios. It builds on participant's knowledge and skills to understand the needs of domestic violence victims, facilitating compassionate and meaningful client interactions.

This self-paced course includes about an hour of interactive content, including evidence-based readings, case scenarios, multimedia materials, and a final quiz.

Continuing Education Credits Available

Participants must self-report their certificate to their licensure board to receive credit; we do not report to the licensure boards.

  • Licensed Mental Health Counselors, Marriage & Family Therapists, and Licensed Social Workers:
    • Continuing Education Unit (CEU) programs are planned in accordance with meeting the criteria set for and approved for licensure renewal as outlined in the Florida Statutes and by Chapter 491 Licensure Board. This course is approved for and offers 1 contact hour for clinical social workers, marriage and family therapists, and mental health counselors. Provider #50-4971.
